Gitanjali J. Angmo is the Co-Founder and Director of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL), where she spearheads innovative approaches to education that are experiential, contextual, and multi-disciplinary. Her work focuses on reimagining traditional educational models to better suit the unique environmental and cultural challenges of the Himalayan region. Through HIAL, Gitanjali is helping create a new paradigm of education that encourages sustainable development and localized solutions to global issues.
In addition to her role at HIAL, Gitanjali has provided key advisory support to the governments of Maharashtra and Ladakh in shaping educational policies that promote holistic and context-sensitive learning. Her leadership extends beyond education; she is also the founder of Helios, a successful publishing company, reflecting her diverse professional portfolio.
A recipient of several prestigious awards, Gitanjali was honored with the “Women Transforming India” award by the Indian government for her impactful contributions to social change and empowerment. She is also a Chevening Fellow at Oxford University, where she deepened her expertise in leadership and policy. Gitanjali’s work and personal pursuits, including her studies in Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita, underscore her commitment to personal growth, societal transformation, and leadership.
